Meet Chris
Chris Trunkey currently serves on the Governing Board of the Saugus Union School District, and has an extensive track record as an education volunteer in the district.
He has served in a variety of positions at both West Creek Academy and Bouquet Canyon Elementary including Site Council, PTA Executive Board, and longtime PTA volunteer.
In 2013, the California State PTA recognized Chris with their Honorary Service Award, citing his “outstanding service to children and youth.”
Chris is an active member of our community, having served as Treasurer for the Stephen Friedman Multiple Myeloma Fund, Director of William S. Hart Baseball, and William S. Hart District Measure V Citizens Oversight Committee Member.
Chris has been a finance professional in the entertainment industry for over 25 years and has significant experience in fiscal operations and information technology. He is currently the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Phoenix Pictures, a Los Angeles-based film production company.
Chris and his wife, Kelly, live in Saugus. Their two children are Saugus Union School District alumni.
Accomplishments
Governing Board Member Chris Trunkey has served on the Saugus school board since 2014, helping the district to achieve:
Focus on student and staff well-being and student learning loss resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic by actively making programmatic and staffing changes to meet the needs of students and staff.
Implementation of the California Labor Management Initiative (LMI) to improve student achievement and bargaining-unit relations with our teachers and classified employees.
Improved safety and security across all campuses with single-point-of-entry access, electronic locks, robust visitor management systems, updated civility/bullying policies, and implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) districtwide.
Modernized facilities using voter-approved Measure EE and other funds for new classrooms, flexible indoor and outdoor learning spaces, and library and multi-purpose rooms, as needed. Plum Canyon, Skyblue Mesa, Cedarcreek, Rosedell, Helmers, Highlands, James Foster, and West Creek have all received new buildings or construction is in process.
State of the art technology including interactive flat panels in every classroom, expanded Chromebook distribution for student use, but most importantly, the development of a curriculum that incorporates technology, the use of google classroom to enhance instruction, and student engagement,
Selection of the superintendent, the current superintendent, an expert in 21st-century learning tools and techniques, ensures every classroom reflects innovative, effective educational leadership and effectively address achievement gaps. Chris led the district through the inclusive community/staff/board selection process.
Responsive fiscal governance ensuring a positive certification of the district’s financials, and making sound decisions that put students first. And utilizing public and parent input in every step of the budget and LCAP process.
Updated board policies for continuous improvement to maintain compliance with the latest laws and student/staff well-being.
